Tips

Make visually appealing images & videos with Canva!

  • Want to create an updated Google Classroom Banner

  • Make your poster or newsletter POP?

  • Do you have a fundraiser coming up and you don’t know how to make a flier?

  • Need to make an infographic to display data but don’t know where to begin?

Canva can be used in school (it’s Ed Law 2D approved!) as they provide schools with pro accounts.  On a computer or Chromebook, you can access the website at www.canva.com. Just log in with Google.  Students can use it too!  Check out the new Tech Tip of the Week image I made (to the left)!  I was able to use a template and add the elements they had.

Changing Speakers From Computer to Panel… or vice versa!

During our online meeting on the first day of school, many people called, texted, or emailed that they could not hear the speaker.  Since then, I’ve had others approach me about changing what speakers you are using.  Have no fear! It is an easy fix!

Click on the volume button in the bottom right corner near the time/date.

Using the β‹€ in the top right corner, open more sound options.

From there, you can toggle between your computer (Speakers/Headphones (Realtek(R) Audio) or the panel!

ParentSquare Updates!

ParentSquare changed the name of β€œConference Sign-Ups” to β€œAppointment Sign-Ups.”  The use of the system will be the same, but if you need help, please reach out to me or see their how-to page or FAQ page for details (you need to be logged in to view it).

ParentSquare recently adjusted the default setting for posts (general announcements and messages) within ParentSquare to β€œDigest” for all schools, staff, and parents.

What is changing?

Moving forward, any user in the system who has not already made an adjustment to their notification settings will be moved to β€œDigest” and thus receive all post notifications in a single summary link (to email or app) at the end of the day beginning at 6 pm in their local time zone. Alerts and direct messages will continue to be sent immediately in the mode selected by the sender.

Why?

We know that in many cases families have felt overwhelmed by the abundance of immediate communication and notifications they are receiving throughout the day in regard to their child(ren). We also want to reserve parents’ attention for instant notification of our most urgent and targeted communication through alerts and direct messages.

I have questions!

You can learn more about notification settings as well as how to adjust them in this help article here.

FAQs:

Q: What if I need a post to go out immediately?

A: You always have the option to β€œsend instantly” and override user-preferred settings when creating and sending out a post.

Q: It’s past 6 pm in my local time – will this information go out today?

A: No! Only posts that are created and sent prior to 6 pm in your local time zone will be included in the digest notification.

Q: I, or parents in my school, want to change to instant notifications – what should we do?

A: Great! Any user can adjust their notification settings from their account. This help page walks you through the process.

Adobe Spark is no more… Welcome Adobe Express!

You may see the Adobe Express button when you are posting on Google Classroom.  Adobe has removed β€œSpark” from their lineup of tools and added β€œExpress.”  This is the rebranded version of Spark that we (even students) have access to!  Make presentations, posters, slideshows, infographics, and more!  If you’re interested in playing with Express, you can log in here at express.adobe.com with your Google credentials.  Feel free to play around and learn what there is to do!  If you want more instruction, Adobe offers tutorials here:  https://www.adobe.com/express/learn/tutorials

On November 1, 2021, there were 62 approved apps on our list.  Currently, there are 117!
